Nanomateriały w ramach rozporządzenia w sprawie produktów biobójczych
Nanomateriały to materiały lub substancje chemiczne wytwarzane i wykorzystywane w bardzo małej skali. Ich rozmiary wahają się od około 1 do 100 nm w co najmniej jednym wymiarze.
Nanomateriały mają specyficzne cechy charakterystyczne, bardziej wyraziste niż cechy tych samych materiałów niewystępujących w nanoskali. Z tego względu właściwości fizykochemiczne nanomateriałów mogą różnić się od właściwości dużych substancji lub większych cząstek.
Jesteśmy świadkami dynamicznego rozwoju nanotechnologii. Wiele produktów zawierających nanomateriały trafiło już na rynek europejski (np. baterie, powłoki, odzież antybakteryjna, kosmetyki, produkty spożywcze). Nanomateriały zapewniają możliwości techniczne i komercyjne, ale mogą stanowić zagrożenie dla środowiska, a także budzić obawy związane ze zdrowiem i bezpieczeństwem ludzi oraz zwierząt.
