First REACH registration deadline for Croatian companies on 1 July 2014
Croatian companies manufacturing or importing substances into the European Union that are produced in amounts more than 100 tonnes per year, or that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction (CMR, categories 1a and 1b), need to register them with ECHA by 1 July 2014. The pre-registration phase ended on 1 January 2014, by which ECHA received 221 pre-registrations for 206 substances.
Help for companies in relation to the 1 July deadline is available on ECHA's website. A Q&A document translated into Croatian explains, for example, how to transfer registrations already carried out before accession by an Only Representative to the company established in Croatia. So far, ECHA has received 55 registrations from Croatian industry, of which 40 include a change of legal entity from an Only Representative back to the Croatian company.
Companies need to register their chemicals under REACH to continue producing, marketing and using substances legally in the European Union.
