How to prepare a downstream user chemical safety report
ECHA/NA/15/27
A new practical guide is available on how to prepare a downstream user chemical safety report. It describes the approaches that downstream users can take to determine the risks and document their assessment.
Helsinki, 7 September 2015 - If a downstream user's use of a substance is not covered by the supplier's exposure scenarios, they have an option to prepare a downstream user chemical safety report. This practical guide gives advice and examples on how to prepare one, including how to:
- gather information on the substance;
- perform a chemical safety assessment;
- document the downstream user chemical safety report;
- communicate the outcome of the report to customers; and
- report to ECHA.
The practical guide complements the Guidance on Downstream Users (section 5). It was developed as part of the Chemical Safety Report/Exposure Scenario Roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders. The information in the guide builds on a survey of downstream users that was conducted to identify their needs related to chemical safety reports.
