You can now access data from the EU’s first public database of substances of very high concern in products, SCIP. It aims to allow consumers to make more informed purchasing choices and help waste operators to further develop the re-use of articles and the recycling of materials.
The Candidate List of substances of very high concern now contains 219 chemicals that may harm people or the environment.
ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) considers that there is not enough scientific evidence to conclude that certain chemicals found in single-use diapers or nappies pose a risk. This conclusion follows an evaluation of a proposal to restrict formaldehyde, PAHs, dioxins, furans and PCBs in baby diapers throughout the EU.
