Highlights from September BPC meeting
ECHA’s Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) adopted three opinions on active substances and four on Union authorisations.
Helsinki, 20 September 2023 – The BPC, in its September meeting, adopted the following opinions on active substances:
- 2,2-dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide (DBNPA) as a preservative for products during storage (product-type 6) is considered to meet the exclusion criteria. As such, DBNPA cannot be approved for product-type 6 unless one of the derogation criteria in Article 5(2) of the Biocidal Products Regulation can be applied; and
- Not supporting the use of sulfuryl fluoride as a wood preservative (product-type 8) and as an insecticide to control anthropods (product-type 18). The BPC concluded that there is insufficient data in the application.
In addition, the committee adopted four opinions supporting Union authorisation of biocidial product families. Three of the families consist of disinfection products while the fourth family is made up of products intended for preservation. More details on these opinions in the annex.
The European Commission together with the EU Member States will take the final decisions on approvals of active substances and on Union authorisations of biocidal products.
