Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment updated
ECHA has updated the chapters on sediment organisms' toxicity (Chapter R.7b) and environmental exposure assessment (Chapter R.16).
The update of Chapter R.7b (section addressing sediment organisms' toxicity) takes into account the outcome of the Topical Scientific Workshop on Risk Assessment for the Sediment Compartment held in 2013 in ECHA. It also aims to reflect the latest scientific consensus and further clarify important elements, such as species selection and the applicability of the equilibrium partitioning method and of latest OECD guidelines.
The structure of Chapter R.16 (environmental exposure assessment) has been revised to present in a more readable way the standard approach to environmental exposure assessment. The section on release estimation has been expanded by elaborating existing information. Most of the changes aim to improve clarity and consistency, remove redundancies and further elaborate existing concepts.

Biocidal Products Committee adopts opinions on three active substances
The Biocidal Products Committee has adopted opinions supporting the approval of three active substances for use in biocidal products used as disinfectants and insecticides. The substances are:
-
Citric acid for product type 2
-
Cyfluthrin for product type 18
-

Harmonised classification and labelling
ECHA has launched public consultations on the harmonised classification and labelling proposals for three substances. Submit comments by 4 April 2016.
1-vinylimidazole (EC 214-012-0; CAS 1072-63-5) is an industrial monomer intended for the production of polymers used in different professional and consumer products. Comment on the hazard class reproductive toxicity.
Potassium permanganate (EC 231-760-3; CAS 7722-64-7) is mainly used as a laboratory reagent, as a chemical intermediate and in water treatment in agriculture, forestry and fishing industries. Comment on the hazard class reproductive toxicity.
Pentasodium (carboxylatomethyl)iminobis (ethylenenitrilo)tetraacetate (EC 205-391-3; CAS 140-01-2) is used in industrial, professional and consumer products, including pulp and paper industries, washing and cleaning products and textiles. Comment on the hazard classes acute toxicity, reproductive toxicity and specific target organ toxicity - repeated exposure.
