ECHA Newsletter 4/2012: ECHA takes on new tasksECHA newsletter

In the August issue we introduce the new biocides regime, what it means to ECHA and how the new rules for placing biocides on the market will work. We report back on the second meeting of the Exchange Network on Exposure Scenarios (ENES), which focused on how to develop exposure scenarios describing realistic conditions of use. Good practice in deriving and communicating exposure scenarios are included. We have also included articles on reaching out to small and medium-sized companies - with the 2013 deadline in close sight.

Preliminary programme of the Lead registrant workshop published

The European Chemicals Agency organises its second workshop for lead registrants preparing for the 2013 REACH registration deadline. The workshop takes place from 11 to 12 October 2012 in Helsinki. The Agency has published a preliminary agenda on the event page and sent out invitations together with a link to register for the workshop to over 600 lead registrants that have notified ECHA of their role using the lead registrant nomination webform. A total of 300 places are available on a first come, first served basis. Registration will remain open until 21 September.

New public consultations on proposals for harmonised classification and labelling for two pesticides/biocides and a plasticiser

21 August 2012

ECHA invites the parties concerned to comment on three new proposals for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH): tebuconazole, imazalil and diisohexyl phthalate (DIHP). The 45-day public consultation will end on 21 September for DIHP and on 5 October for tebuconazole and imazalil. The CLH reports and the dedicated webform for posting comments are available on the ECHA website.

New PIC Regulation adds to ECHA's tasks

16 August 2012

The Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Regulation gives new tasks for the Agency. The regulation implements the Rotterdam Convention at EU level and sets guidelines for the import and export of certain hazardous chemicals. The recast PIC Regulation is now in force, and will apply for industry from 1 March 2014 onwards.
