Call for evidence on possible restriction dossier for 1,2-dichloroethane
ECHA has launched a call for evidence to collect further information to prepare for a possible restriction of 1,2-dichloroethane (EC 203-458-1,
CAS 107-06-2) in articles for which an Article 69(2) screening report has been drafted.
ECHA is also simultaneously collecting further information on other hazardous substances used as fumigants in freight containers and possible worker exposure to them, including 1,2-dichloroethane.
We invite interested parties to provide relevant information by
16 March 2022.

Guidance on registration translated
Version 4.0 of the Guidance on registration is now available in 23 official EU languages. The guidance is aligned with two European Commission implementing regulations – one on the registration and data sharing of phase-in substances after the final registration deadline, and the other on updates of registration dossiers.
The new version clarifies how the registration process happens now that
pre-registrations are no longer valid and advises companies how to calculate the tonnage band in which to register. It also helps companies determine when they need to update their REACH registrations.

Scientific study on metabolic biomarker panels
ECHA has participated in a research project setting up a metabolic biomarker panel for toxicology. It is based on existing knowledge from various databases and scientific literature. A research team from Michabo Health Science and the University of Birmingham has compiled a publicly available list of metabolic biomarkers. The MTox700+ panel will support the generation of consistent molecular mechanistic data for chemical hazard assessment.
This contributes to the development of new approach methodologies and thereby alternatives to animal testing.
