European Ombudsman closes complaint on how ECHA applies rules concerning animal testing
ECHA/NI/15/32
Helsinki 23 September - The European Ombudsman closed a complaint against ECHA after its proposed solution was accepted by the Agency. The Ombudsman asked ECHA to require registrants to show that they have considered alternative testing methods before submitting new proposals to test on animals. The practical implementation of this solution will require further analysis. ECHA will first discuss the way forward with the Member States and the Commission before reporting on the progress to the Ombudsman.
The complaint was about ECHA's role in evaluating testing proposals on vertebrate animals and initiated by an NGO.
