Recommendations of the SCOEL
Recommendations of the SCOEL
The Scientific Committee on Occupational Exposure Limits (SCOEL) was first set up by the European Commission in 1995 with the aim to evaluate the potential health effects of occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals based on the latest available scientific data. Substances included in this repository have been evaluated by the Committee until 2018 when its mandate ended.
The health-based scientific recommendations have been used to set occupational exposure limit values to protect workers from chemical risks under the Chemical Agents Directive and the Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive. This directive has later been replaced with the Carcinogens, Mutagens and Reprotoxic substances Directive (CMRD, 2004/37/EC).
The repository, previously published on the SCOEL website, provides the list of substances for which SCOEL adopted recommendations and opinions relating to the toxicological evaluations of substances affecting the health of workers.
How to read the table
The substance identifiers shown in the table come from ECHA’s chemicals database:
- Substance name
- EC/List number (European Community number / List number assigned by ECHA)
- CAS RN (ie. Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number)
For each substance, the table also includes the specific SCOEL name (in brackets, where different from ECHA’s), the SCOEL document number, the year the recommendation was adopted or revised and the recommendation in PDF format.
