Description of key information

The density of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 1.2455 g/cm3 at 25 °C (298.15 K) (Garcia-Gimenez, 2008).

In the key study (Garcia-Gimenez,2008), the density of 1,2-dichloroethane was measured using a vibrating tube densimeter with a DMA 512 high-pressure cell. High pressures were generated by a liquid pump (model LC.10 AT of Shimadzu). The density was determined to be 1.2455 g/cm3 at 25 °C (298.15 K). The uncertainty of the reported density was estimated to be 10-4g/cm3.

In a supporting study, the density of 1,2-dichloroethane (Mumford, 1950) was determined with water-calibrated specific-gravity bottles, all weighings being done under vacuum. Density was determined at two temperatures (20 and 25°C). The means of at least two determinations, performed with different bottles were recorded for each temperature. The density of 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 1.2527 g/cm3 at 20°C and 1.2454 g/cm3 at 25 °C.


Other handbook data from different souces support this value (range: 1.23 to 1.28 g/cm3).
