Description of key information

The surface tension of undiluted 1,2-dichloroethane was determined to be 32.45 dynes/cm at 20°C and 31.75 dynes/cm at 25°C (Mumford, 1950).

In the key study (Mumford, 1950), the surface tension of 1,2-dichloroethane was measured according to Sudgen's modification of the maximum bubble pressure method, using bubblers calibrated with pure benzene. Surface tension was determined at two temperatures (20 and 25°C). The means of at least two determinations performed with different bottles were recorded for each temperature. A value of 32.45 dynes/cm at 20°C and 31.75 dynes/cm at 25°C was measured.

The measured value is supported by the findings in a supporting study (Goelles, 1979), where a value of 32.3 dynes/cm at 20°C was determined.
