Quality Criteria for Drinking Water

The Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184 concerns the quality of water intended for human consumption. Drinking water is wholesome and clean if it’s: (a) free from any micro-organisms and parasites and from any substances which, in numbers or concentrations, constitute a potential danger to human health; (b) meets the minimum requirements set out in Parts A, B and D of Annex I. Indicators parameters set out in Part C of Annex I shall also be monitored, as they can help to identify water treatment.

‘Pesticides’ means: organic insecticides, organic herbicides, organic fungicides, organic nematocides, organic acaricides, organic algicides, organic rodenticides, organic slimicides, related products (inter alia, growth regulators), and their metabolites as defined in point (32) of Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council (1), that are considered relevant for water intended for human consumption

A pesticide metabolite shall be deemed relevant for water intended for human consumption if there is reason to consider that it has intrinsic properties comparable to those of the parent substance in terms of its pesticide target activity or that either itself or its transformation products generate a health risk for consumers
