Description of key information
Additional information
Acute and chronic tests evaluating the toxicity of OPP (CAS-No. 90-43-7) to aquatic organisms from three different trophic levels are available. The assessment of short-term toxicity to fish is based on four valid, reliable studies available. A LC50 of 4.5 mg a.i./L for Danio rerio was determined. To evaluate the long term toxicity to fish one guideline study is available. An overall NOEC (21 d) of 0.036 mg a.i./L for Pimephales promelas was observed. The assessment of short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is based on two valid, reliable studies available for OPP. A LC50 of 2.7 mg a.i./L OPP for Daphnia magna was determined. To evaluate the long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates one reliable study is available. A NOEC (21 d) of 0.009 mg a.i./L for Daphnia magna was observed.
The assessment of toxicity to algae is based on two valid, reliable studies available for OPP. Based on growth rate an EC50 (72 h) of 3.57 mg a.i./L for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined (corresponding NOEC (72 h) = 0.468 mg a.i./L).
To investigate the effects of OPP on aquatic microorganisms two guideline studies are available. On study was carried out using predominantly domestic sludge while for the other study industrial sludge was used. The results of both studies are in the same range. For PNEC derivation the EC50 (3 h) of 52 mg/L for domestic sludge was used.
