Description of key information

The autoignition temperature for solid biphenyl was determined to be 566 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
566 °C

Additional information

Whereas ECHA Chapter R7a Guidance (2008) indicates that this information requirment may be waived for solid substances having melting point < 160 °C, a reliable measured value of 566 °C is available, and used as the Key Study. Two handbook values of 540 and 570 °C were identified, and used as Supporting Studies. The Key Study value is within 3.2% of the critically-reviewed and accepted value of 540 °C reported in the AIChE DIPPR Database (v5.2.2, 2011); however, a report is not available which documents measurement of this recommended value.
