Description of key information

The Key Study of de Bruijn et al. (1989) determined a log Kow of 4.008 at 25°C using the slow-stirring method, which is a method specifically designed for hydrophobic substances. The key value was supported by values taken from industry (4.1, Kaley et al., 1976, Klimisch 4), and a peer-reviewed handbook (log Kow = 3.16 and 4.09, Verschueren, 2001).

Additional information

Three log Kow values in the range of 3.16 to 4.1 are available. The log Pow value of 4.008 determined at 25°C by de Bruijn et al. (1989) using the slow-stirring method, which is specifically designed for hydrophobic substances, is considered the key value and can be used in the CSA as the octanol/water partition coefficient for biphenyl.
