The percentage absorbance of dose 14C-lauryl alcohol (dodecan-1-ol) = ca 3 %. Approximately 85% of the absorbed dose is excreted as carbon dioxide in the expired air.

When tested diluted in solvent vehicles, the degree of absorption was influenced by the concentration and the type of solvent that was used.

For n-lauryl alcohol in squalane, the fraction of the dose that was absorbed varied between approximately 15% of the applied dose at 0.01% concentration to approximately 7% of the applied dose at 5% concentration.

For n-lauryl alcohol in castor oil, approximately 1% of the applied dose was absorbed at lower concentrations (<0.1% - 5%), and 3 -4% at 50% concentration.

For n-lauryl alcohol in TEC (triethyl citrate), approx 3% of the applied dose was absorbed at concentations of 0.5 -5%, and 4% at 50% concentration.
