Description of key information

No data are available: a waiver is proposed for this endpoint. Physicochemical considerations and experimental evidence suggest that acrylonitrile is unlikely to bioaccumulate in exposed biota, and toxicity studies in mammalian species provide little evidence of cumulative toxicity in a range of species. Concentrations of acrylonitrile in biota are expected to be very low, and it is therefore concluded that the potential for secondary poisoning is very small. Bioaccumulation of acrylonitrile is not anticipated, given experimentally-derived values of 0-0.3 for the log Kow, and a bioconcentration factor (BCF) of 1.0 has been calculated from the known water solubility of acrylonitrile.
