Additional information

In the key study the EC50value for Maleic acid at 48 hours was 42.81 mg/L based on nominal concentrations with fiducial limits at 95% being 33.51 and 54.68 mg/L.

On the basis of the observations made during this test, the NOEC (which is the highest tested concentration of test item at which no effects on Daphnia were observed = No Observed Effect Concentration) was 17.5 mg/L and LOEC (Lowest Observed Effect Concentration) was 30.63 mg/L.

In the repeat definitive test, Daphnia magna were exposed to a concentration of 93.80 mg/L (pH adjusted to 6 to 9). The results of the repeat definitive test have shown 55% immobilisation of daphnids compared to initial definitive test wherein 100% immobilisation was observed at the end of test. Acidic conditions, to an extent, would have played a role in higher immobilization.
