Updated Navigator tool to help industry identify obligations under REACH published

ECHA/NA/13/32

ECHA has published an update of its online Navigator tool in 23 official EU languages. The Navigator is an interactive tool that helps manufacturers, importers, downstream users and distributors of chemical substances on their own or in mixtures and producers and suppliers of articles to clarify their role in the supply chain and to identify their obligations under REACH. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that have not yet examined the impact of the REACH and CLP regulations on their business, are strongly advised to use the updated Navigator available in all EU languages.

Helsinki, 25 September 2013 - The Navigator provides help by opening an interactive dialogue to support duty holders seeking orientation on REACH. During a Navigator session the user answers a series of questions, for example: whether the user manufactures or imports the substance, at what tonnage, for what use. The tool gives explanations below each question and guides the user in a step-by-step manner to help determine possible obligations under the REACH and CLP regulations. The Navigator also provides links to relevant supporting documents for meeting these obligations.

The updated content of the tool is now consistent with the current state-of-play of legislation, ECHA's regulatory processes and current ECHA guidance. It, in particular, takes account of changes brought about by the CLP Regulation. The updated version contains more information as well as references to the relevant legislation and to guidance documents developed since the previous update of the Navigator.

The updated Navigator complements the updated Guidance in a Nutshell on Registration document published on ECHA's website on 20 September 2013. Both have been published in 23 official EU languages to improve their accessibility to all users and to enhance their usefulness to SMEs throughout Europe.
