Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Further testing on the terrestrial toxicity of methyl benzoate is not required as the exposure assessment (see Chapter 9) based on PNECsoil(screen) does not indicate the risk for terrestrial compartment (the RCR of the terrestrial compartment is well below 1 and all the supported uses are therefore assessed to be safe). Available experimental data are not adequate for use in the hazard assessment.

Additional information

The test substance suppressed the mould development on strawberry fruit in an in vitro bioassay when applied via the vapour phase at a concentration of 52.2 µg/L or greater. The duration until fruit were infected was increased by a factor of about 2. Since the study was not conducted in accordance with protocols for standard tests of toxicity to terrestrial micro-organisms the reported effect level cannot be used to derive an effect level that may be used for the derivation of a PNEC soil.
