Description of key information

Hydrolysis of the substance does not need to be tested because methyl benzoate is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Due to the ready biodegradability of methyl benzoate, hydrolysis of the substance was not tested. Available experimental data show that hydrolysis of methyl benzoate occurs under alkaline conditions (Shain and Kirsch 1968, Drossmann et al. 1988).
