Description of key information

Further testing on the terrestrial toxicity of methyl benzoate is not required as the exposure assessment (see Chapter 9) based on PNECsoil(screen) does not indicate the risk for terrestrial compartment (the RCR of the terrestrial compartment is well below 1 and all the supported uses are therefore assessed to be safe). An available study showed that the substance had no repelling or other adverse effects to honey bees when applied by spraying at a concentration of 50 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Limited information about the effects of the substance to terrestrial arthropods (honey bees) is available. The test animals were exposed once at a level of 50 mg/L by hand spray for four hours and chemical avoidance was recorded. No repelling or other adverse effect of the substance was observed.
