Additional information

1,1,1-trichloroethane is a colourless liquid at room temperature with an ethereal, chloroform-like odour.  Its melting point is 242.7 K and its boiling point is 347.3 K.  It has a density of 1.34 mg/L at 20°C and  its vapour pressure ranges from 13.7 kPa to 16.4kPa at 20°C.

Solubility in water is 1250 mg/L and it is reported to be soluble in common organic solvents; the Log Kow value is 2.49.

It is not flammable (as it has no flash point) nor combustible but the flammability limits in air are reported to be between 7.5 and 12.5 %; it is not an oxidising substance.

1,1,1-trichloroethane readily corrodes aluminium and aluminium alloys.
