Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the substance 2-methyl-N-(4-sulfamoylphenyl) prop-2-enamide (SPM-N).

The oxygen balance: Using C10H12N2O3S as molecular formula and 240.28 g/mol as molecular weight, the oxygen balance for the substance is -166%. This is > -200% and therefore within the region where there may be a potential for explosivity. However, there are no plosophores (bond groupings known to give explosive properties) or auxoploses (explosive enhancing groups) present in the structure. The relatively high oxygen balance is considered due to the presence of a carbonamide and a sulfonylamino group in the molecule.

Overall consideration of the properties in accordance with EU Method A.14 does not suggest a risk of exploding.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on explosive properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: Based on chemical structure the substance is not explosive.
