Additional information

The toxicity of 2-methyl-N-(4-sulfamoylphenyl) prop-2-enamide (SPM-N) to algae was evaluated in a study by Migchielsen (2008c). This test was conducted according to OECD 201, under GLP conditions. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to the test substance for 48 hours at 21 ± 1°C. Generally, the standard exposure time for this type of test is 72 hours. Nevertheless, according to OECD Guideline 201 “shorter or longer test durations may be used provided that all validity criteria are met”. Since this is the case for the test conducted with SPM-N, the test is considered as valid. After 48 hours, no significant inhibition of algal growth was observed at any of the concentrations tested, and therefore the EC50 (48 h) was determined to be > 30 mg/L (measured concentration).
