Description of key information

The acute toxicity of ethyl-(S)-lactate to the fresh-water crustacean Daphnia magna was determined as decribed in the OECD Guideline no. 202 and according to the OECD principles of Good Laboratory Practice. The 48 h EC50 (immobilization) reported for ethyl-(S)-lactate to Daphnia magna was 683 mg/L. The 48 h NOEC (immobilization) reported for ethyl-(S)-lactate to Dapnia magna was 320 mg/L. The NOEC (condition) reported was 560 mg/L (all surviving animals were in good condition).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50/LC50 for freshwater invertebrates:
683 mg/L

Additional information

No adverse effects have been observed at the highest recommended concentration (100 mg/L). This indicates that no hazard has been identified.
