Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Trade name: Purasolv EL
- Batch number: 0909001195
- Appearance: Clear colourless liquid
- Purity: 99.83% w/w
- Storage: at room temperature, in the dark under nitrogen
- Expiry date: 2010-09-14
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
-9 °C

During the first and the second experiment, essentially the same results were obtained. For the experiment an internally scratched sample pan was used in order to facilitate crystallisation. Cooling showed a crystallisation peak between -60 °C and -40 °C. Melting of the test substance was observed between -20 °C and 20 °C with an extrapolated onset of -9.54 °C (first experiment) and -9.05 °C (second experiment). After the experiment, the test substance was visually unchanged.

Conclusions:
The melting temperature of ethyl (S)-lactate is -9 °C.
Executive summary:

The melting temperature of ethyl (S)-lactate was determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in accordance with OECD guideline 102 and EU method A.1. The melting temperature of the test substance is -9 °C (264 K).

Description of key information
