Executive summary:

The water solubility was determined according to OECD Guideline 105 using the shake flask method. Incipient insolubility was detected by turbidity measurements. The test substance formed emulsions already in the range of a few mg/L. Based on visual evaluation of the serial dilution, a water solubility of approximately 49 mg/L was estimated (Frischmann, 2010).

Description of key information

The water solubility was first determined according to OECD Guideline 105 using the shake flask method. Incipient insolubility was however detected by turbidity measurements; the test substance formed emulsions already in the range of a few mg/L. Based on visual evaluation of the serial dilution, a water solubility of approximately 49 mg/L was finally estimated (Frischmann, 2010).

 

Water solubility testing using OECD Guideline 105 was conducted once again with a different batch of test substance in 2022. The results confirmed initial conclusions; no valid results could be obtained at guideline-compliant loading rates of 10 and 50 g/L due to the formation of emulsions. Hence results from the Schoneck, 2022 study were disregarded.

 

For risk assessment purposes, the initially established water solubility value of 49 mg/L was therefore retained.
