Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Tefuryltrione is a water soluble substance (WS: 64.2 g/L at 20°C) that is characterized by a low log Pow (1.9 at 25°C) and a low vapour pressure (VP: 1.8E-10 Pa). Tefuryltrione is not readily biodegradable (4% after 28d, OECD 301F). The substance is hydrolytically stable at environmentally relevant pH values (DT50> 1 yr, OECD 111). Exposed to artificial sunlight, the substance is photolytically degraded in aqueous solution with a half-life of 2.0 – 5.6 days and in soil with a half-life of 3.9 days.

Tefuryltrione is an ionisable substance with a pKa of 3.2 at 20 °C (OECD Guideline 112). Based on the pKa the substance is expected to exist mainly in the ionized from at environmentally relevant pH of 5-9.The log D values determined for the substance decrease with increasing pH. The log D determined at pH 4 is ca. 1.0, whereas a log D of ca.-1.9 was determined at pH 7 and the log D at pH 9 is: ca. -3.9. Based on the log D values bioaccumulation of the substance is not expected.

The Freundlich adsorption constants related to the organic carbon content (Koc) ranged from 33.7 to 246.7 (log Koc = 1.53– 2.39) in four different soils (sandy loam, silt loam, loam, loamy sand, silt loam).

The mineralisation rate, determined in a sediment simulation test, was 0.7 – 1% after 101 days (based on the measured CO2 elevation). In the available studies on the aerobic transformation in soil the substance attained 11.5 to 63.2% degradation (elevation of 14CO2) after 120 days. The substance was not significantly degraded in soil under anaerobic conditions in the dark in the laboratory. The calculated half-lives under anaerobic conditions were > 1000 days.
