Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Dibutyl ether was used as a solvent in an open epicutaneous skin sensitization test with 2,4 toluene diisocyanate. In this test, the dibutyl ether (administration volume 25 µl) solvent control showed no sensitizing properties to guinea pigs skin (Koschier et al., 1983). Therefore, the substance does not need to be classified and labelled for skin sensitisation, according to the Regulation 1271/2008 and the Directive 67/548/EEC.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
There are no guideline studies on the skin sensitizing properties of dibutyl ether available. However, limited information is available regarding the skin sensitization potential.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There are no indications on sensitizing properties of dibutyl ether.
