Di-n-butyl ether is not readily biodegradable under the standard guideline tests. It does demonstrate the potential to be inherantly biodegradable however. The acute toxicity values for Di-n-butyl ether to fish and algae fall within the range of 10 and 100 mg/L.

Therefore this substance requires classification for the environment - Chronic 3, according to the Regulation EC 1272/2008.
