For MBS a hydrolysis half-life of ca. 24 h in buffered deionized water at pH 7.0 and 25°C with light excluded was observed. The hydrolysis products were identified to be mercaptobenzothiazole (CAS: 149-30-4), bezothiazole (CAS: 95-16-9) and morpholine (CAS: 110-91-8). The indirect atmospheric oxidation rate by reaction with OH-radicals was estimated by using AOPWIN v1.92 to be 1.20 *10-10cm3/(molecule*sec) and half-life thus 3.21 h. The estimated half-life in air of MBS is much shorter than 48 hours; and hence no potential for long-range transport of MBS in air is expected. Due to direct photolysis in water , the half-life of MBS in water was reported to be 0.78 hour.
