Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Melting point: 251 °C, presumably under decomposition

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
251 °C

Additional information

In two peer reviewed handbooks a melting point in the range of 258 - 263 °C have been reported, whereas in one of them (The Merck Index) a softening at 250 °C has been reported. This goes in line with information about decomposition at 251 °C reported by Wilson et al. in Journal of Food Science (1940). A melting point of 251 °C (decomp.) is therefore taken forward for Chemical Safety Assessment.
