Abiotic degradation:

In the atmosphere N-Methylethanolamine is expected to be indirectly photodegraded with a half-life of 4.867 hours based on a 24 -h day and an OH radical concentration of 0.5E6 OH/cm³ (AOPWIN v1.92, EPI Suite v4.12). Using a higher OH radical concentration of 1.5E6 OH/cm³ and a 12-h day, the half-life is calculated to be 1.622 h. After evaporation or exposure to air, the substance will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes.

 

Under environmental conditions no hydrolysis is expected for the substance. Considering the hydrolytic stability of the test substance, it should not be expected that hydrolytic processes will contribute to its degradation in the environment.

 

Biodegradatation:

In laboratory tests ready biodegradability of N-Methylethanolamine was demonstrated (BASF, 1993).

 

Bioaccumulation:

N-Methylethanolamine has a very low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms.

 

Adsorption / Desorption:

Considering the low logPow of the substance N-Methylethanolamine of -0.91 (BASF, 1989) no testing of adsorption and desorption needs to be performed. In addition, the chemical is readily biodegradable.
