Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on physical properties were obtained from a number of secondary sources. The data in these secondary sources are based on a critical evaluation of peer-reviewed data and the selected values are considered to be reliable and representative of the property under investigation. Information in the review process was documented in the introduction of the source. The use of Klimisch codes (Klimisch et al., 1997), was extended to these secondary sources and a reliability code of (2) valid with restrictions was assigned when using the authoritative secondary source.

Review of the collated information indicates that vinyl acetate has a high vapour pressure and is very soluble in water with a relative density of lower than water.Vinyl acetate is expected to volatilize from waste water and to a lower degree from surface water, based on the vapour pressure and a Henry's Law constant of 51.6 Pa. m-3. mole-1at 20°C. The transfer to the atmosphere is to some extent counterbalanced by the high water solubility of the compound. Based on the Henry's law constant, VAM can be regarded as a moderately volatile compound.

The boiling point of vinyl acetate (72.7°C) and flash point (-8°C) indicate that this substance would be classified as Category 2 flammable liquid with the hazard statement H225 "Highly flammable liquid and vapour".
