After an exposure time of 72 h following effect values were observed: EC10 = 22.2 mg/L; EC50 > 500 mg/L.
Executive summary:

Possible toxic effects of the test substance towards algae were investigated in a study which followed German standard DIN 38412 (Part 9). The following nominal concentrations: 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 mg/L and a control were investigated. After an exposure time of 72 h following effect values were observed: EC10 = 22.2 mg/L; EC50 > 500 mg/L.

Description of key information

The key values for chemical safety assessment are taken from the experimental result by BASF AG (1989).

Possible toxic effects of 2 -Pyrrolidone towards algae were investigated in a study which followed German standard DIN 38412 (Part 9). After an exposure time of 72 h following effect values were observed: EC10 = 22.2 mg/L; EC50 > 500 mg/L.

Additional information

The aquatic toxicity of 2 -pyrrolidone towards algae was experimentally investigated according to German standard DIN 38412 (Part 9); (BASF AG, 1989). The growth of Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism was fluorimetrically determined. The test organisms were exposed to test concentrations of 0 (control), 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 mg/L mg/L for 72 hours. As final result, an EC10 (72 h) of 22.2 mg/L and an EC50 (72 h) of > 500 mg/L were determined.
