Additional information

Data available for 2 -pyrrolidone:

An inherent biodegradation test was performed in accordance with OECD guideline 302 -B (Zahn-Wellens Test). Test was completed after exposure time of 9 days, since a complete degradation (98% DOC removal) was achieved in this time period.

Data available for N-methylpyrrolidone:

The following study results regarding ready biodegradation are derived from the analogue 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP, CAS 872-50-4). Such cross-reading between these components is confirmed by the results for inherent biodegradability. Here for both substances the biodegradation showed the same result.

In different screening test the analogue substance to 2-pyrrolidone (1-methyl-2pyrrolidone) showed ready biodegradability. Due to this fact, no further tests on biodegradation in surface water or sediment have to be performed. In experiments for inherent biodegradability it was found that both substances, 2-pyrrolidone as well as 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, are easily eliminated from water. The biodegradation level in soil was found to be higher than 90 %.
