Short-term aquatic toxicity tests are available for three trophic levels (fish, invertebrates, and algae). No chronic experimental data are available regarding possible effects of the test substance.

I. Toxicity to fish:

The key study was performed in 1995 by BASF with Brachydanio rerio (Zebra fish) and revealed an LC50 in the range of >4600 -10000 mg/L. Test was performed in accordance with OECD guideline 203, exposure time was 96h. An additional acute toxicity supporting study is available for Golden orfe (LC50 (48h) >1600 mg/L). However, the test design shows several deficiencies compared to relevant guidelines.

II. Toxicity to invertebrates:

Acute toxicity towards Daphnia magna was examined in a test according to EEC directive 79/831 EEC, Annex V, C2. The test revealed a no-effect concentration (EC0) of 500 mg/L, whereas an EC50 of >500 mg/L was determined.

III. Toxicity to algae:

Possible toxic effects of the test substance towards algae were investigated in a study which followed German standard DIN 38412 (Part 9). After an exposure time of 72 h following effect values were observed: EC10 = 22.2 mg/L; EC50 > 500 mg/L.

IV: Aquatic microorganisms:

A test according to OECD guideline 209 resulted in an EC50 >1000 mg/L.
