Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Based on the experiments reported here, it can be safely concluded:

1. Individual irradiation of Trichloroacetic acid solution with US or UV produced perceptible changes in TOC removal and formation of Cl- ions. However, it is important to note that the decomposition of aqueous Trichloroacetic acid becomes more remarkable in photosonochemical process.

2. In photosonochemical process, the dechlorination rate of test substance under oxygen is higher than that under air.

3. The effect of the solution pH value on the photosonochemical degradation of test substance is complicated. In this case, higher pH is effective to dechlorination and TOC removal.

The half-life of trichloroacetic acid from the photodegradation at 15 °C is 6 day.

With titanium dioxide:

Rate constant/s IC= 1,28x10-6

Rate constant/s titration= 1,15x10-6

Without titanium dioxide:

Rate constant/s IC=6,40x10-8
