LC50 (17-18d) > 100 mg/kg dry soil (nominal) for Triticum aestivum, Lepidum sativum and Brassica alba based on read across (OECD 208, limit test)
As no valid study is available for assessing the toxicity to soil
macroorganisms of 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, tri-C9-11-alkyl
esters (CAS No. 94279-36-4), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No.
1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the
structurally related category member 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid,
mixed decyl and octyl triesters (CAS No. 90218-76-1) was conducted. The
read across is justified due to a) the structural similarity of the
category members and b) similar physico-chemical properties resulting in
a similar environmental fate and ecotoxicity profile. Further
justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the
category justification section 13.
The study with 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl
triesters (CAS No. 90218-76-1) was performed under GLP and according to
OECD guideline 208 using Triticum aestivum, Lepidum sativum and Brassica
alba as test organisms (Scholz, 1994). This limit test performed at a
nominal concentration of 100 mg/kg dry soil was conducted in artificial
soil. Effects of seedling emergence and seedling growth were determined
during a test period of 17 days (B. alba) and 18 days (T. aestivum, L.
sativum), respectively. No phytotoxic effects were observed in the
control and the treatment for any tested species. Hence, the 17-18d-LC
50 for seedling emergence and growth are determined to be > 100 mg/kg
Thus, based on the above mentioned results, and due to the structural
similarities and a consistent ecotoxicological/environmental fate
profile of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint
summary in IUCLID chapter 6.1, it can be concluded that no toxicity of
1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, tri-C9-11-alkyl esters (CAS No.
94279-36-4) to terrestrial plants is expected.
