Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

readily biodegradable

Additional information

Several studies for testing ready biodegradability of iso-butanol carried out (according to OECD guideline 301A, C, D, E and F). The results shows consistently that iso-butanol is readily biodegradable in water.

Exemplarily iso-butanol degraded in a range of 70-80 % (BOD/ThOD) after 28 days according to OECD 301D (closed bottle test) guideline study [Waggy & al., 1994].  Furthermore the biodegradation reached 90-100 % (BOD/ThOD) after 14 days according to OECD 301C guideline [MITI, 1992]. In conclusion iso-butanol is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
