2 -methylpropan-1 -ol has no tendency to adsorb to particulate matter and is readily biodegradable. Therefore, an assessment on sediment toxicity is not required.
In Annex X of the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 REACH concerning
the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals
(REACH), it is suggested, that "long-term toxicity testing shall be
proposed by the registrant if the results of the chemical safety
assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects of the
substance and/or relevant degradation products on sediment organisms.
The choice of the appropriate test(s) depends on the results of the
chemical safety assessment."
2 -methylpropan-1 -ol has a low potential for adsorption or
bioaccumulation, exhibits a very high solubility in water and is
readiliy biodegradable. In addition, results from the aquatic studies
indicate no harmful effects. Therefore exposure of sediment organisms is
unlikely and testing towards sediment dwelling organisms not necessary.
Furthermore, the equilibrium partitioning method can be used for
assessing the hazard of sediment organisms.
