Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of the activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

As key study a short-term respiration inhibition according to ISO 8192 with domestic activated sludge was identified (BASF AG, 1990; report no. 01.89/2152) was identified. The test substance was the structurally similar substance DMDC (CAS 6864 -37 -5). The 30 -min EC20 was determined to be 160 mg/l.

The result is supported by a short-term respiration study performed with PACM and activated sludge from a wwtp treating industrial wastewater. The 30 -min EC20 was determined to be > 1000 mg/L (BASF AG, 1986; report no. 01.114/86).

There is one study available withPseudomonas putidawhere the reliability was not assignable (RL 4) since the report is missing. The 30 -min EC10 was determined to be 80 mg/L based on the respiration rate (BASF AG, 1987; report no. 01/87/0792).
