Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

This study determined the solubility of the test substance in water and in pH 9 buffer. The solubility of the test substance in purified water (HPLC reagent-grade water), in well water and in pH 9 buffer at 20°C was determined using a shake-flask method according to the guideline OECD 105.

Triplicate test vessels with an excess of chlorimuron ethyl for each solvent were equilibrated at the test temperature. Aliquots were taken at three or more consecutive sampling times and were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography using UV absorption detection at 205 nm.

The solubility of the test substance was determined to be 8.55 x 10e-4 g/100 mL (8.55 mg/L) in HPLC reagent-grade water, 3.81 x 10e-2 g/100 mL (381 mg/L) in well water and 6.35 g/100 mL (63500 mg/L) in pH 9 buffer. Excess test substance was present in the test containers at each sample point for these three solvents. A minimum of three consecutive data points had concentrations within 15% of the average solubility for both the purified water and the well water. For the study at pH 9, two of the three data points used to calculate concentration were within 15% of the average and the third data point was within 18% of the average.
