In the literature, several studies are available on the Methyl Salicylate logKow value . However, most of the publications are in fact secondary literature with no information on the method applied and test conditions. Therefore, their validity are not assignable.


The Sangster databank (1989) is reported as a key reference in the guidance document of ECHA (Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment: Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance). This databank contains experimental logKow data, retrieved from the literature, on over 20,000 organic compounds. For each compound, whenever possible, the compiler gives the Log Kow value which, in his judgment, is closest to the true value.

For Methyl Salicylate, this databank reports five experimental logKow values ranging from 2.08 to 2.98. The recommended value of 2.55 is selected as key value for the assessment of the substance.


The other available secondary sources with not assignable data provide logKow values consistent with the key value of the GESTIS databank. They range from 1.45 to 2.98 and are selected as supporting studies.
