Description of key information

An acute fish toxicity test (Brachidanio rerio)with Desmodur PF obtained a LC0 = 10000 mg/L .(Method: UBA test protocol: Letale Wirkung beim Zebrabaerbling Brachydanio rerio) (Bayer, 1989)
A test with Danio rerio gave also no mortality at 1000 mg/L (static, OECD 203, polimeric MDI) (Caspers, 1986)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

LC50 for freshwater fish:
10 000 mg/L

Additional information

Two short-term aquatic toxicity studies are available for fish for polymeric MDI (CAS 9016-87-9). In a study with Oryzias latipes (Sumitomo Bayer, 1982) no acute toxicity was observed after 96h exposure to 3000 mg/l (Semi-static). A protocol similar to OECD 203 was followed. A test with Danio rerio gave also no mortality at 1000 mg/L (static, OECD 203) (Caspers, 1986). This value may be considered for the derivation of a PNEC aqua. Based on the justification in the category approach, it is assumed that all MDI analogues included in the category have similar LC50 values.
