PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The substance is readily biodegradable. Therefore it is considered as not persistent. The yeast extract, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is not considered bioaccumulable, neither very bioaccumulable, due to the hydophilic nature of this substance and its low log Kow expected. The yeast extract, Saccharomyces cereviae is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or as a reproductive toxicant and there is no evidence of (chronic) toxicity at levels that would trigger classification. Moreover as demonstrated in section 6 of IUCLID, none of the test data for yeast extract is within the criteria for toxicity stipulated in the ECHA’s Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment - Chapter 11: PBT/vPvB Assessment (2014). No toxicity was observed in acute tests. Therefore the yeast extract, Saccharomyces cereviae is not considered toxic (T). The yeast extract is not P/vP, not B/vB and it is not toxic, so it is neither PBT nor vPVB.
