There are no microorganism toxicity data available for
trimethoxyphenylsilane. Therefore, good quality data for the analogue
substance, trichloro(phenyl)silane (98-13-5), have been read across.
Both substances share the same silanol hydrolysis, phenylsilanetriol.
The other hydrolysis product is methanol, which is readily biodegradable
and well characterised. Methanol is not expected to be hazardous at the
concentrations relevant to the study.
There is no no evidence of significant toxicity to microorganisms.
An activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD
209 resulted in an EC50 (3 h) value of > 1000 mg/L (equivalent to > 740
mg/L phenylsilanetriol) and a NOEC (3 h) value of 1000 mg/L (equivalent
to 740 mg/L phenylsilanetriol) for trichloro(phenyl)silane. This
indicates that the substance was not toxic to waste water (activated
sludge) bacteria at a nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L (equivalent to
740 mg/L phenylsilanetriol).
