Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

For the determination of the toxicity of the submission substance 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine dihydrochloride its corresponding base, 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine, being of equivalent toxicological concern, had been tested in short-term toxicity studies in fish, aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna), aquatic plants (algae, Scenedesmus subspicatus) and microorganisms.

The key study for fish (reliability category 1) had been performed on Bracydanio rerio (HAMILTON - BUCHANAN) equivalent to OECD 203 fulfilling all the validity criteria of the guideline. The LC50 after 96 hours had been determined to be 3.3 mg/L 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine , although abnormal behaviour had been observed already at the lowest tested concentration of 1 mg/L . Other LC50 -values for fish species from the secondary literature (ECOTOX-database) are between 1.1 and 2.8 mg/L (all Pimephales promelas) 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine and thus not in contradiction to the key study.
